Private Pottery Lessons

If you are interested in gaining experience on the pottery wheel without a large group setting then this is a great option for you! Try a two-hour, one time session to get a feel for the material. You can select a session to throw on the wheel or focus on handbuilding. Then, if you want to continue to explore the material, we can custumize a private program for you. Pottery Workshop

What to expect

during a 2 hour "try it" class?

-Relaxed environment in a small home studio. The studio is housed in it's own stand alone building. Please be respectful of the space and do not touch anyone else's artwork.

- All materials will be provided.

- A creamy, white mid-fire clay will be used. It does not stain, but you can always bring an apron or old shirt.

- You will only use wet clay during the two hour lesson. You will need to schedule a time to glaze your work (no extra charge, but limited to one hour)  or select a studio glaze to be applied by instructor.

- Work will be ready for glazing within two weeks. Once glazed, the work will be fired again and ready within 2-3 weeks.

- All work must be glazed within four weeks of creating and picked up within two weeks of final completion.

- Know that much care will be taken to ensure sucess but clay can sometimes be unpredictable. The studio is not responsible for any work that cracks, warps, breaks, or has any glazing issues.

- We love to have fun and create amazing projects. Please be realistic and do not expect a YouTube video to come to life in a singular session. The internet offers knowledge and inspiration, but know it's not always accurate or realistic. Your instructor has twenty years of practice and knowledge.  Let's start with the basics and see where tried and true practice takes us.

New to clay? Curious about what is involved in each course?

Sometimes creating art from scratch can be intimidating. It's my goal to erase those worries and start each student off on a path that is comfortable and skill appropriate. That is why we will always discuss a plan before the first class.

It is important to start with realistic expectations. You can learn a great deal if you are open to exploration and making mistakes, but you won't throw a giant pot in a couple weeks either. Ceramics is a process, but the journey is so rewarding.
